Not the gas guzzling Hummer but a nectar drinking hummingbird was spotted a few days ago in our back yard garden.

Later identified as a female Rufous Ruby-throated hummingbird, she was checking out the petunias, the torenia and the honeysuckle. We put out the feeder in the hopes of enticing her and her friends back for more fine nectar sipping.

This evening Ruth, our female Rufous Ruby-throated hummingbird, returned for a second course of petunia, torenia and honeysuckle nectar. She didn’t touch the feeder – why drink sugar water when you can have the organic, natural version nearby? We’ll leave the feeder out anyway  – the occasional drips keep the ants happy.

Speaking of hummingbirds, who remembers this?
