Vegetable plants are finally producing produce in our community garden and so far Black Krim tomatoes are definitely a winner.
Black Krim tomatoes are originally from the Isle of Krim in Ukraine (Krim being the Ukrainian word for Crimea). It is believed that soldiers returning home from the Crimean War brought these seeds home with them and began sharing them.
On another note, our cherry tomatoes have been hard hit by blight and one of the cucumbers is succumbing to wilt. Next year we’re planting Marketmore 76 – introduced by Cornell University, these cucumbers are resistant to many of the diseases that plague less resistant varieties. In the meantime, we are enjoying the harvest.
