Yet another another indicator of the economic downturn is less fill in the landfill.

Less consumption = less trash, which has resulted in a 30% drop in trash levels in our area. Repair shops of all kinds are reporting an increase in business and 70,000 people a week are joining

We toss 254 million tons of unwanted stuff  each year, 63.3% of that is organic matter (paper products, food scraps, lawn trimmings). Included in our collective trashcan is:
*  25,000 tons of toothbrushes
*  7 million tons of clothing and footwear
*  22 billion plastic bottles
*  2 million tons of tech trash including 100 million cellphones.
