In case you missed the program aired last year on Fresh Air, the interview with Michael Pollan was rebroadcast this afternoon.

In October, he wrote an article in the NY Times Magazine directed to the President-Elect about the health of the nation’s food systems. The way we grow, process and eat food has implications for our climate, energy independence, food security, economy and health.

One recommendation Pollan makes is to appoint a White House farmer responsible for overseeing the return of a Victory Garden to the White House grounds.  Turning even a small portion of the White House lawn into a Victory Garden will serve as a model for others to grow their own and enjoy the fruits and vegetables of their labors.

So along with a White House chef, the Obamas will need a White House farmer – and we stand ready to be the farmer’s first assistant.
