Gas prices may be going down but bike use is still on the rise.
One measure of the increase in biking is the use of bike racks on bus racks. Big spikes were seen in recent months in places like Houston TX (235% increase), Hartford CT (159% increase) and Charlotte, NC (70% increase).
The number of bike riders may well continue to increase. The Federal Bike Commuter Act which takes effect on January 1, 2009 allows employers to offer a fringe benefit of $20 per month for employees for the purchase of a bicycle and any bicycle improvements, repairs, or storage costs.
