A recent press release from DDOT lauds progress made towards completing 40 miles of bike lanes in the District.  Eight miles of bike lanes will have been installed in 2008, more than any single year to date.  This keeps DC on track to meet one of the goals of the DC Bicycle Master Plan: to install 60 miles of bike lanes in 10 years.

That’s all well and good, but in my experience bike lanes are simply convenient places for vehicles to double park. This despite the fact that in September the DC City Council passed a set of laws setting fines for drivers who park in bike lanes. Perhaps the double parkers didn’t get the memo.

Yes we can – make DC a more bike friendly place.
