What country is the leading solar energy producer? Would you be surprised to know that it is Germany?
In 2006, about 50% of the world’s solar electricity was produced in Germany despite the fact that the country has fewer sunny days than places further south such as Greece. As part of a broader plan to create energy independence, the German government plans to significantly decrease output of greenhouse gases and increase renewable sources in order to supply a quarter of its energy needs by 2020.
